MARCOAST COVERS TWO GROUPS OF SERVICES: THE OIL SPILL MONITORING AND ASSESSMENT OF WATER QUALITY IN COASTAL AREAS

MarCoast targets to deliver a portfolio of marine and coastal services on the European scale. This project was acquired by the purposes of:

Inclusion:
Obviously, MarCoast does not aim at developing new elementary chains of service but will start from them, accordingly, a particular effort should be made to have an integrative approach: Usually, the cross-cutting activities will support inclusion in this work, both the user level (sphere of needs and demand, communication efforts to promote the benefits of such a service) and the technical level (standardization, data recovery and cost policies, etc.);

Maintenance:
This is one of the main goals of the project the GSE Stage 2: ensure that all activities conducted within the project will target long-term goals. This is closely connected with the above mentioned items, and for that, the cross-cutting activities of the utmost importance. One of the challenges of MarCoast, that should not be viewed as a one-shot project, should be to ensure that most (if not all) activities are carried out in light of maintenance.

MarCoast proposes a set of six core services, that:
Oil spill surveillance and customized information
Assessment of oil spill drift
Water quality monitoring and alert
Hab monitoring, development and evaluation
Service water quality analysis
Met-Ocean Data

The main objectives are:
Demonstrate progress towards long-term maintenance services for GMES oil pollution and water quality sector
Deliver services and benefits to users on progressively larger scales
Establish a strong, open, distributed GMES Service Provision Network
Establish standards and working practices for GMES Services in the area of ??oil pollution and water quality
Project will ensure that these goals by:
